Serving the people of the Isle of Lewis and Isle of Harris in the Western Isles.
Isles FM is a not for profit organisation run predominantly by volunteers. It broadcasts with a licence from the former Radio Authority and is therefore a small-scale local commercial ILR licence.
Isles FM is the community radio station for the Western Isles of Scotland based in Stornoway, the main town on the Isle of Lewis where the station broadcasts to the community 24 hours a day.
The studio is located in Newton Street, Stornoway just a few minutes walk from the Stornoway Ferry Terminal.
Isles FM has been on air since 1998. In 2009 the broadcast license for Isles FM was extended by Ofcom granting the station full broadcast rights for a further 6 years.
The station provides a mix of local news, information and music. There is a focus on the community, providing a voice to community groups and organisations.
Local businesses have found Isles FM to be an excellent medium for advertising. The station has proved its worth time and again, especially in times of disruption due to bad weather with updates, travel information and news.
The output includes a huge variety of music from heavy metal to jazz and chart hits to accordion music. The focus is very much on local, Scottish and Gaelic music. Isles FM provides a channel for local bands and talent.
Isles FM is more than a community radio station; it is the information lifeblood of the islands and a focal point for community information.
