Awaz FM serves the Asian population of Glasgow, delivering entertainment, community information, local, national and international news broadcasting in Urdu, Punjabi, Hindi and English.
The key aims and objectives are to promote social integration through radio broadcasting for the benefit of the black and minority ethnic community (BME) in the Greater Glasgow area and to provide information for the advancement of education and health. It will also provide a reciprocal link for Glasgow’s South Asian youth to their cultural root’s and heritage.
To provide Glasgow’s Asian community with a fulltime radio service with music, news including local, national and international and community information in a multi-lingual format.
To provide a voice (Awaz) for delivering news and community information to Glasgow’s Asian community as well as providing a sounding board for cultural and social issues;
To act as a communications catalyst to promote understanding of and respect for all cultures in Scottish society;
To promote the idea of social integration twinned with the right of the individual to celebrate his/her cultural identity while respecting the right of other’s to hold and express differing views;
To involve additional ethnic minority groups such as those represented by refugees and asylum seekers as a way of promoting Scotland’s rich social diversity.
These are programmes delivered live and pre-recorded to the Asian and African community in Glasgow. The broadcasts on 107.2 FM are in English, Urdu, Punjabi, Hindi, Paharhi and Swahili.
